( After sleeping through a hundred million centuries we have finally opened our eyes on a sumptuous planet, sparkling with color, bountiful with life. Within decades we must close our eyes again. Isn't it a noble, an enlightened way of spending our brief time in the sun, to work at understanding the universe and how we have come to wake up in it? This is how I answer when I am asked -- as I am surprisingly often -- why I bother to get up in the mornings. )

( Wherein a tiny ant is dabbed with the 'dead smell'. Despite her fervent protests, she is declared 'dead to the community' - an outcast repeatedly sent to the 'dead pile.' But this is an optimistic story! The ant eventually cleans herself off and is included back into the community, and we learn much about the ways in which creatures (other than humans) communicate. )

Hello beauties.

I went to ( St. Augustine last month for my 18th birthday. )

So, thanks to the reminding post about the theme, I took a few extremely lame stripey pictures. ( At least I tried, right, even if I am not as cute as Valerie? )

I am extremely honored and pleased and completely shocked to be June's MOM. Danke schoen! It also makes me feel less bad about posting MORE pictures, because this probably means that most of you will like looking at them! But be warned, there's a SHIT-ton of them.

Why, hello there. I disappeared for a few weeks (well, probably not more than three - does that count as a few?) but now I am back! I went for Utah for two weeks with my family, and we backpacked and camped and climbed mountains, and had a really astoundingly beautiful time BUT no internet access.
